Aladdin Workshop 2019

It’s time for another blog and this one is all about our latest workshop. Our Aladdin themed workshop took place on the 13th of August 2019 at The Hub, 9.30-12.30pm.  We had pupils from P1-P5 take part and had 3 assistants for this one – Mia, Aimee and Katie.

We started off our day as we usually do at these workshops by playing some “Getting to know each other’ games. These games help our more shy pupils become more confident and is a fun way to learn each others names and get to know those they may not have met before and by the end of these games, we can really see how much more relaxed the children are. We then have a dance warm up which was led by our assistants this time, which encourages them to become more confident with giving instruction and is a great way for our pupils to become more comfortable around our assistants.

After a quick drink break the group was split into two. The younger group started off with our Aladdin craft which was to make and design our very own Lanterns meanwhile the older group danced gorgeously with scarfs to ‘Arabian Nights’.

After a snack break consisting of fruit, veg sticks, breadsticks, crisps, chocolate crepes and juice or water, we were all refreshed and ready to start again. While some of our slower eaters finished up our assistants began a game of “Duck, Duck, Goose’ with those who were already done, This is always a favourite at our workshops.

The groups then switched over with the younger group now learning choreography to ‘Friend like me’ and the older group began making and beautifully designing their own Aladdin Laterns. Both groups performed their dance for each other and are always very responsive and encouraging.

We decided it was now time to learn the words to a more popular song we thought the majority might already know, ‘A whole new world’. We sat everyone in a circle mixing up those who can confidently read and those who can’t which allows those who can to help the ones who struggle. Everyone joined in and became especially loud at the well known chorus.

Before we knew it, it was sadly time to finish up. The children collected their exceptionally magical lanterns and headed out the door to show them off to their parents.

We can’t wait for the next workshop and our preplanned winter ones on Friday 22nd of November and Saturday 21st of December, For more information just send us an email.

A huge thanks to all those who supported this one.

Enjoy the photos!

‘Til next time,

Miss Molly
