Welcome to Flashdance’s first ever blog!

Our intentions with this blog are to give parents and families of Flashdance more information about what we do, how we do it and most importantly why!

Blogs will be written by a variety of people, teachers, assistants, pupils and the occasional guests.  We hope to cover an array of topics, events and important milestones.

Our first blog covers our Lion King themed workshop which took place on 1st April 2019 at The Hub, 9.30-12.30pm.  We had pupils from P1-P5 take part and were lucky to have four assistants on the day – Aimee, Iona, Katie and Mia.

Diving straight into some painting was the order of the day, to allow the plates to dry before being decorated in our craft sessions later.  We love a ‘getting to know each other’ game as the pupils come for a variety of classes/venues.  By the end of our game the group all knew each other’s names and which school they attend.  Dance warm up followed the games then a well deserved drink break before being split into two groups.  One group got stuck into our Lion King craft activity whilst the other danced beautifully to ‘Can you feel the love tonight.’

After a snack break consisting of fruit, veg sticks, breadsticks, crisps and juice or water, we were all ready to restart.  Some eat much faster than others and love using the spare time to play games with our assistants…the current favourite is ‘duck, duck, goose’!

The groups then switched over with the dance group learning choreography to ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ and craft for those who had danced already.  Lot’s of amazing faces for our roars from our dancers!!!  Each group performed their dance for each other and are always an appreciative and attentive audience.

Lastly we learned the words to ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’….we muddled around the groups, some being Simba and others being Zazu but decided in the end that Zazu’s words were a little too tricky so we let the assistants take that role and all sang Simba’s world famous words.  The children were all brilliantly behaved for the whole session and deserved their Easter eggs…..especially our hard working assistants!

We can’t wait for the next workshop.  Thanks to all those who supported this one.

Til next time

Miss Laura
